The all-new 2020 Ford Escape combines style, speed, and comfort to deliver best-in-class family fun.
What’s new for the 2020 Ford Escape?
Compared to previous generations, the all-new Escape is roomier, faster, and more thoroughly modern. Ford made a lot of changes to its compact crossover for the 2020 model year, giving it more powerful engines, better fuel economy, and a longer, wider cabin. It’s both family-friendly and sportier than ever. This year, the Escape Hybrid is even making a big comeback, delivering up to 40 mpg combined while at the same time giving drivers the smooth, powerful performance they crave.
Why choose the redesigned 2020 Ford Escape?
Ford’s compact crossover stands apart from the crowd with its sporty performance and rich interior comfort. Its 2020 overhaul includes sportier exterior design as well as a more powerful base engine, a lighter, stronger frame, and improved suspension. Selectable drive modes tailor transmission settings according to your surroundings. All of these improvements merge to create a crossover that’s faster, more fuel-efficient, and incredibly fun to drive.
On the comfort front, the new Escape’s wider, longer design directly translates into greater leg and shoulder room. While previous Escapes were on the cozy side, this new model is nothing short of spacious. Ergonomics are another high point. In addition to lasting support, the front seats offer impressive access to oft-used controls.
Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system is standard on the SE and up, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. And all of the Escape trim models come standard with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 bundle of safety aids, including automatic emergency braking.

What’s under the 2020 Ford Escape hood?
The base engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder rated for 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. When power isn’t in demand, this new engine’s cylinder deactivation system shuts down one cylinder to conserve fuel. The base engine works with a new eight-speed automatic transmission to combine peppy performance with up to 30 mpg combined.
If you need a little extra heft to haul your big family and all of their sports gear, you can always check out the turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. It speaks to your need for speed with 250 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque. Thanks in part to the new Escape’s lighter, stronger build, models with this engine offer the line’s swiftest performance yet.

What’s the deal with the 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid?
For the first time since the 2013 model year, fuel-savvy drivers can choose the Escape Hybrid. Hybrids have come a long way since then, and this one is no exception. Driving the Escape Hybrid feels almost exactly like driving the regular, gas-powered model, albeit with a bit more engine noise at times.
The 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid maximizes fuel economy, earning up to 41 mpg combined. In the SE Sport and Titanium trim models, you’ll find a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine that works in conjunction with a pair of electric motors for smooth, powerful cruising.
There’s even a new plug-in hybrid version of the Escape Hybrid with the 2.5-liter engine. Its large plug-in battery is expected to provide at least 30 miles of all-electric driving. There’s even an extra EV Now setting that uses all the battery power before it switches over to hybrid cruising.
