Electric vehicles right now are the cars of the future to most car people, many who love electric cars have been wanting a straightforward electric pickup truck and Ford delivered in every way. The Ford F-150 Lightning. This amazing pickup was developed over years and really hit the spot for its niche market. Recently Ford closed out the possibility to order a 2022 Lightning, for many of us who recently decided we were looking for the pickup of the year, it unfortunately was too late. Luckily we know that Ford is releasing an F-150 lightning in 2023 and that production begins in October. In this article we are going to talk about what we know and the rumors that have been announced.
What’s New in 2023?
The F-150 Lightning was all new in 2022 so we are fairly certain not much will be new in 2023 except for a few things. There will be minor incremental changes made to the Ford Lightning and one we are sure of is that it is getting an upgraded sound system done by Android. The F-150 Lightning should be very similar to the 2022 model and have fairly similar looks and builds.
Trims and Pricing
The F-150 Lightning started out at a base price of around $41,000 in 2022 and went up to around $92,00 on the highest trim level. We expect to see similar pricing and trim levels on the 2023 Lightning model. The base trim or the Lightning Pro, has spartan commodities and the more you move up the more features and options the truck has. Each trim level has the battery and power outlet. The only difference between the trims and their batteries is that the Platinum top tier trim has an extended range battery and that this comes as optional on all the mid-tier trims but is unavailable on the base Pro. Despite that the differences are all just various features, upgrades and convenience. The Platinum really has it all and the lower trims have increasing comfort.
When to Order?
The only thing that has been announced by Ford is that production begins October 10th, other than that we are unsure when the possibility to order begins. We do know that the previous F-150 Lightning sold out in record time, it is extremely important as soon as this date is announced that you line up to get your F-150 Lightning 2023, as sales are expected to increase for this model year.
What is the Towing Capability of the F-150 Lightning?
We can expect the towing capability to be similar to the past towing capability for the Ford F-150 Lightning. The one downside to towing something in the Lightning is that we have to get the extended battery range to be able to successfully tow up to 10,000 pounds. The regular battery can only tow up to 7,700 pounds, which may not be nearly enough for some workers or owners trying to tow larger trailers and RVs. Payload capacity is higher though for the standard range up to 2,000 pounds but less for the extended range battery at 1,700 pounds.
With the 2023 model we can expect similar features to the 2022 model. We also know that production does begin in October and that we will expect to see many similar feats of strength pulled by the 2023 model. We are hoping for an improved 2023 battery but we do not expect to see a huge increase in the range. If anything we will see minor cosmetic improvements to the first trim. It is important to keep aware of any news on the 2023 lightning and that if it is released the ordering date, you have to order as soon as possible to get yours.
