The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y are two of the hottest electric crossovers on the road right now. Choosing between them isn’t going to be an easy task, but hopefully our comparison can help.
Lowest Potential Price: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Both electric luxury crossovers put a fair price on upscale cruising, but the Mustang Mach-E has a much lower MSRP, starting at $42,895. By comparison, the 2021 Tesla Model Y starts at $53,990. In spite of its lower price, though, the Mustang Mach-E really piles on the goodies, with impressive interior luxury and high-end performance.
Sporty Handling & Acceleration: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
The all-new Ford Mustang Mach-E was built for fun-loving excursions. Shoppers can choose from five trim models, each of which offers a slightly different on-road experience. The most powerful Mustang Mach-E is the GT Performance Edition, a beast that supplies 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque.
Although the Tesla Model Y is also pretty powerful, it doesn’t give you quite as much oomph. Of the Model Y trim levels, the Model Y Performance gives you the quickest ride, thanks to its 456 horsepower and 497 pound-feet of torque.
Battery Range: 2021 Tesla Model Y
Whether you’re looking at the Model Y or the Mustang Mach-E, battery range varies a bit according to which trim model you select. The Model Y Long Range model has the overall advantage, however, offering up to 326 miles of driving range. The longest-lasting Mustang Mach E is the California Route 1 model, with a battery range of up to 305 miles.
Interior Luxury & Technology: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
Both the 2021 Tesla Model Y and the Ford Mustang Mach-E offer high-quality cabins loaded with gadgets. However, although Tesla has built a reputation for luxury and high-tech driving, the Mustang Mach-E came ready for a street fight.
Ford’s all-new electric crossover is stylish and modern, with vegan leather seating in every model and an optional panoramic glass roof. And its infotainment system is equipped with a big, Tesla-like 15.5-inch touch screen. Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment interface also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity to maximize smartphone integration.
You’ll also love the Tesla Model Y interior, which includes a standard panoramic glass roof and optional leather upholstery. However, although its infotainment system includes Google-based navigation and a 15-inch touch screen, Tesla has yet to offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. So, if you’re like most of us, you’ll miss the level of smartphone integration this technology provides.
Choose Your Luxury Electric SUV
The 2021 Tesla Model Y certainly has its attractions, but the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E really comes through on every level. The all-new Mustang Mach-E is lightning quick, sporty in a tight spot, and loaded with luxury. Choose this Ford EV crossover for everything you want in an upscale, all-electric drive.
