What are the differences between the 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost and GT trim models? This comparison guide will help you figure out which Mustang is more your speed.
What are the 2020 Ford Mustang trim levels?
Before we get into the major difference between the EcoBoost and GT models, let’s talk about the complete hierarchy of Mustang trim models. For 2020, drivers can choose from five Mustang models: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, and Bullitt.
EcoBoost and GT models feature diverse powertrains. However, when it comes to comfort and convenience features, they’re very similar, though the GT does give you a slightly longer list. The same goes for the EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium models, which add more comfort and convenience items.
The Bullitt is essentially a special edition of the Mustang GT, designed to elicit nostalgia from Steve McQueen fans. They’ll remember the original Bullitt, a 1968 movie starring Steve McQueen and featuring an iconic forest green Mustang. This 2020 special-edition Mustang features an exclusive Highland Green exterior paint option, special wheels, and a variety of Bullitt badges.
2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost vs. Mustang GT powertrains
The main difference between EcoBoost and GT models is what’s under the hood. In EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium trims, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine makes 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty of output for speeding onto highways and around tracks. But, if you want more, you can have it. Add the High Performance package to your EcoBoost trim for 330 horses and 350 pound-feet of torque.
GT models are more powerful, thanks to their robust 5.0-liter V8 engine. Mustang GT drivers can tap into 460 horses and 420 pound-feet of torque. In the special Bullitt model, a modified intake manifold gives this engine a boost, increasing output to 480 horses.
2020 Ford Mustang Features Lineup
Although there are a few differences between the Mustang EcoBoost and GT models, they generally come standard with a similar array of comfort and convenience features. The EcoBoost is home to 17-inch wheels and keyless entry and ignition technology. FordPass technology is also standard, giving you access to features like remote ignition. Inside, the EcoBoost has a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 4.2-inch central display screen, and a six-speaker sound system.
The GT gets bigger wheels – 18 inches – and adds a few extra features to the EcoBoost lineup. Inside, it’s easy to get comfortable in the power-adjustable front seats, and rear parking sensors help you back out of a space without any dust-ups.

Both add to the standard features lineup with classy touches like leather upholstery and upgraded cabin trim. Premium models include Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system, which makes smartphone connectivity easy with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technology. The audio system is also improved, with nine speakers to help you belt out all your favorite tunes. The EcoBoost Premium model adds power-adjustable front seats (standard on GT models).
